Programme Note

Written in May 1994, this is the latest in a series of (involuntary) memorial pieces composed since Memorial itself, dedicated to the Juventus fans killed in the Heysel Stadium, Brussels in 1985. All the work in this 'series' - amongst which are Goodbye Frankie, Goodbye Benny (dedicated to Frankie Howard and Benny Hill in 1992), For John Cage, Songs for Tony (dedicated to Tony Simons in 1993) and Tango for Tim (dedicated to Tim Souster in 1994) - were pieces interrupted by the deaths of friends or strangers during the course of the composition.

To Morrow celebrates the life of Michael Morrow, the founder and guiding light behind Musica Reservata, the most vital, energetic and enlightened early music group ever, shamelessly ignored. Its spirit lives on in the Michael Nyman Band.
