The three pieces by Per Nørgård – "Landscape with shepherds”, "Small Christmas Cantata” and "Pastorella” (all 2006) – are related works, pastoral music for Christmas, based on Nørgård´s Christmas hymn from 1985 to a Danish poem by Johannes Møllehave: ”Julens glæde – Himmelfalden”(Christmas´ Joy – from Heaven fallen), a hymn integrated in the version Lille Julekantate (Small Christmas Cantata), to be sung by the instrumentalists and/or by the audience, before and after the central pastorale of the piece.
