Programme Note
The title ”Poeme” might look strange for a solo percussion piece, but exactly the sensitivity and the understated intensity was always in my mind when composing this piece for one of the most artistic performers of the percussion instruments.
The wooden sounds of the marimba tremolo calls for association to the circus, not so much the vitalistic and funny side of a circus performance, as the noble clown with a tear in his eye.
“Poeme” was composed in 1987 and is dedicated to Einar Nielsen, who premiered the sound poem the same year.
