Marche Macabre (1983)
(Vi ser i vinternattens tykning)- Edition Wilhelm Hansen Copenhagen (World)
Marche macabre is from PER NØRGÅRD: KORBOGEN (see this).
Text in Danish (by Jørgen Gustava Brandt.
The choral song may also be performed for voice (or unisono voices), the other parts (ATB) played by instruments.
Programme Note
The song is my contribution to the Peace movements of the 1980s, and so it has a simple dramatic expression. The song may be performed with a small choreographic design, procession, dance or the like.
The music has an ambiguity and balances between the Frere Jaques-melody, Gustav Mahlers ironic and tragic variation on the same, the clowns march in Nino Rota´s music for Fellini´s film “8 ½” and other marches.
The text is by the Danish poet Jørgen Gustava Brandt, and is sung in Danish.
