Programme Note

The orchestra is experienced like a huge ship of sound, shining in the dark.

The first movement opens gently, almost calling, with sounds hanging in the air for a long time. Later the music allows solistic touches to come to light, especially by horn and piano. At the end the work returns to the point of departure, but now in another way.

The second movement opens with a brute outburst, which is succeeded by a gently rocking music. This contrast is during the movement gradually turning into a simultaneousness of the powerful and the gentle. In this way we are talking about a music of many dynamic layers, in which I by the means of instrumentation are seeking an exceptionally sounding distance.
