Programme Note
John Tavener Hymn to the Holy Spirit (1987)
Hymn to the Holy Spirit was written for Christ Church Choir, Oxford and first performed on television at a concert in the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of St. Sophia in the presence of His Eminence Archbishop Gregorios. The Hymn is a magnification and invocation to the Holy Spirit 'to come and abide in us'.

Without the in-dwelling of the Holy Spirit, no art concern with the sacred could exist.
