Commissioned for the 21st anniversary of the Burnham Market Concerts with financial assistance from the Eastern Arts Board and The Lady Margaret Douglas-Home Trust.

A History of the Thé Dansant was written for and first performed by Barbara Rearick and Martin Jones in Burnham Market in August 1994. This work is a setting of poems by MR Peacocke, the composer's sisterm which were suggested by the discovery of a collection of snapshots of the composer's parents on holiday in the South of France in the 1920's with their friend Roger Quilter. The poems are taken from 'Selves' by M R Peacocke (Peterloo Poets, 1995).
