  • 1912 arrested for breaking windows in protest again MPs opposition to giving women the right to vote, for which she served two months in Holloway Prison
  • 1911 March of the Women becomes became the anthem of the women's suffrage movement
  • 1909 Thomas Beecham conducts Smyth's third opera The Wreckers in his first season at the Royal Opera House, the first performance of the work in its complete form
  • 1903 Der Wald mounted by The Metropolitan Opera, the only female composer to have presented an opera at the Met until 2016
  • 1902 Smyth's second opera, Der Wald, premieres in Berlin shortly followed by the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden
  • 1898 Wiemar Opera premieres Smyth's first opera, Fantasio
  • 1893 premiere of Mass in D at the Royal Albert Hall
  • 1887 began studies at the Leipzig Conservatoire
