Richard Blackford studied with John Lambert at the Royal College of Music, then with Hans Werner Henze in Rome. He was first ever Composer-in-Residence at Balliol College Oxford where he composed the opera Metamorphoses for the Centenary of The Royal College of Music and later Composer In Residence to the Brno Philharmonic, Czech Republic. Dividing his career between music for the concert hall and music for the screen (for which he has written over two hundred scores and received many awards), he has composed in virtually every genre; ballet, opera, orchestral, chamber music, electro-acoustic, and his three major choral works Mirror of Perfection, Voices of Exile and Not In Our Time have been extensively performed throughout the world. In 2015 he was awarded the Goldene Deutschland Award for services to music in Germany.
