Summary

Harvey Brough started his musical life as a chorister in Coventry Cathedral, and was singing Bach Cantatas and recording Benjamin Britten by the time he was 13. He had great success with his band; Harvey and the Wallbangers who toured the UK and Europe extensively in the late 80's, recording four albums plus one called Jazz on EMI with Simon Rattle. Since then he has worked in many areas in the music business: writing and producing film music and songs, as well as composing such works as Requiem in Blue and Valete in Pace.

Biography

HarveyBrough started his musical life as a chorister in Coventry Cathedral, and wassinging Bach Cantatas and recording Benjamin Britten by the time he was 13. Since then he has worked in many areas in the music business.

Writing and producing film music (Eyes Wide Shut, Merchant of Venice) StringArranging (Soul II Soul, D Influence). Writing material for and producing singers and musicians (Liane Carroll, JacquiDankworth, Jocelyn Pook).

Brough has worked as a composer for TV, radio and stage and as an arranger andproducer in the music business. His credits include CITIZENS (Radio 4), THEWORLD ABOUT US (BBC1), the Alexi Sayle series PARIS (Channel 4), WISE UP(Channel 4), THE MOST BEAUTIFUL DRESS IN THE WORLD (Bookmark BBC2), HILDEGARD(Omnibus BBC1), HENRY MOORE (Omnibus BBC1), AS YOU LIKE IT (Radio 3) starringHelena Bonham Carter and broadcast on Shakespeare’s birthday in 2000, THEBAYEUX TAPESTRY (Radio 4) and LOOSE ENDS and START THE WEEK for Radio 4.

In 1999 Harvey won the first Andrew Milne prize (Arts Council UK) and wroteRequiem in Blue a piece for two choirs of all ages and his own ensemble made upof musicians he has admired and worked with extensively. Requiem in Blue hasbeen performed some 24 times all over the UKand in Europe. In 2004 Harvey was commissioned to write a piece forthree choirs and the London Mozart players to commemorate the 60th anniversaryof D-day. Valete in Pace was performed twice, once in Normandy(France)and once in Portsmouth (UK), conducted by Andrew Parrott. Last September it wasworkshopped for a week, then performed, as part of the Lund InternationalChoral festival (Sweden).He has also worked with the fabulous Catalan singer Clara Sanabras on disc andlive dates in the UK.Recently Harveywrote the music for the first staging of Watership Down, which was at the LyricHammersmith London as their Christmas Show.

In 2007, he wrote an opera for Opera Genesis at the Royal Opera House II, apiece for 100 performers for the Henley Festival and has toured the world withNatacha Atlas in a new acoustic band as arranger and Musical Director.
