Summary

Alexander Muno was born in 1979 in Saarburg (near Trier/Germany). He made his first attempts at composing when he was only six years old. In 1997/1998 he participated at the Young Artists’ Festival Bayreuth where he attended composition classes led by Tobias PM Schneid. For two terms in 1999 and 2000, Muno was enrolled for seminars on musical analysis with Prof. Theo Brandmüller at the University of Music in Saarbrücken. In October 2000, he took up his study of composition at the University of Music in Würzburg, where he studied in the master class with Prof. Heinz Winbeck. Since October 2003 he had also enrolled on courses in Musicology, Art History and Philosophy at the Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg. Muno spent the winter of 2006/2007 as a fellow of the Bavarian State Ministry of Sciences, Research and the Arts at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris (France). Among others, he wrote works on commission for the festival young.euro.classic / Europäischer Musiksommer Berlin, the Heidelberger Frühling, the Philharmonic State Orchestra Hamburg, the Kasseler Musiktage, the Kissinger Sommer, the Bavarian State Opera Munich, Theater Heidelberg, Landestheater Detmold, the Orchestra of Deutsche Oper Berlin, and for the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra. Muno has received several awards, among which the price of the composers’ workshop of the Hamburg State Opera. He reached the finals at the Queen Elizabeth International Music Competition in 2005, at the Premio Reina Sofía in 2011, at the Uuno Klami Competition in Kotka/ Finland 2014, and received the sponsor’s award of the Ernst-von-Siemens Music Foundation in 2006
