Biography

Born in Kunágota in Hungary, professor and composer Sándor Szokolay was born on March 30th 1931. He attended the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, where he studied with Ferenc Szabó and Ferenc Farkas. He worked for the Hungarian Radio music department between 1957 and 1961 and also as a professor for the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest between 1959 and 1994. In 1994, he retired and relocated to Sporon where he worked and lived until his death on December 8th 2013. He is best known for his operas and oratoria, but he also composed a number of concerti, orchestral works, choral works, cantatas, ballets, songs, chamber works and works for solo keyboard.
