Tan Dun: 'Emperor' en Route
Tan Dun's The First Emperor premieres on 21 December at the Metropolitan Opera. Here's a quick glance at costume designer Emi Wada's collage rendering for soprano Elizabeth Futral, who originates the role of Princess Yue-yang — the Emperor's tragic daughter who refuses to sacrifice her own happiness for the success of the new empire. Commissioned by the Metropolitan Opera, The First Emperor features stage direction by award-winning film maker Zhang Yimou, as Tan Dun conducts.
