The Assassin Tree

The story of the The Assassin Tree is derived from classical myth. The Priest King, lover of Diana, has a fragile grip on his crown. Any man who can kill him will become Diana’s lover and gain immortality - until he, in turn, is hunted down by the next suitor. The drama takes place over the course of one night, during which two young visitors each attempt to become King of the Wood.
This production will be co-directed by Dutch-based choreographers and directors Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten. A strong cast features Kathleen Ferrier Award winning soprano Gillian Keith as Diana, baritone Paul Whelan as the Priest King, and tenors Peter Van Hulle and Colin Ainsworth. Garry Walker will conduct a fifteen-piece ensemble of members of the Britten Sinfonia.
The Assassin Tree will be performed at the Royal Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh, on August 25, 26, 27, and at the Linbury Studio of the Royal Opera House, London, on September 6, 7, 8.
