The American Serge Koussevitzky Music Foundation has commissioned Poul Ruders’ Third Symphony for the Royal Danish Orchestra and Michael Schønwandt, to be premiered in the 2008/09 season. Ruders is internationally recognized as one of the greatest Danish symphonists after Carl Nielsen, and the foundation is thus continuing its collaboration with Ruders, from whom it also commissioned his Second Symphony in 1994 for the New York-based Riverside Symphony Orchestra.
