This month, mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves portrays the title role of Margaret Garner for a third time in a year, as the Opera Company of Philadelphia mounts six performances of Richard Danielpour’s acclaimed first opera. With a libretto by Nobel Laureate Toni Morrison, Margaret Garner was co-commissioned by Opera Company of Philadelphia with lead presenter Michigan Opera Theatre (who premiered it in May 2005) and the Cincinnati Opera, who offered their staging last summer. Kenny Leon and Stefan Lano both return respectively as stage director and conductor.

Graves reprises Margaret Garner in April, when Opera Carolina mounts three performances.
