The Guildhall School of Music and Drama will be celebrating the music of John McCabe in a festival called ‘Landscapes of the Mind’ between 22 and 24 February.

There will be numerous events taking place, beginning with a concert for ensemble, piano and voice featuring the composer at the piano. This first concert will comprise works selected by John McCabe including his Concerto for Piano and Wind, Tenebrae and the Irish Songbook, as well as Robert Saxton’s Chacony, Haydn’s Piano Sonata in G minor HXVI:44 and Emily Howard’s piano piece.

This will be followed by a composition seminar, a piano masterclass, a wind and brass concert and a piano and chamber ensemble concert. Complete details are available from the GSMD.

Away from the festival, McCabe has been interviewed for the leading brass band website 4barsrest.com.

In this fascinating interview he talks about how he came to be involved with the brass band world, resulting in him writing some of the most popular and well-respected music in the repertoire.
