Salonen and Sibelius
Esa Pekka Salonen’s Lachen verlernt has been selected as a compulsory piece in the 9th International Jean Sibelius Violin Competition (November 25-27). All competitors who reach the second round of the competition will be required give a public performance of the work at Helsinki’s Sibelius Academy.

The competition, which runs every five years and is for performers under thirty years of age, is one of the most prestigious in the world (past winners have included Leonidas Kavakos and Viktoria Mullova). The winner is awarded 20,000 Euros and an engagement to perform the Sibelius Violin Concerto with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra.
