Malcolm Arnold’s The Three Musketeers tours England

This autumn, Northern Ballet will revive their acclaimed production of The Three Musketeers in a tour around England. Choreographed by David Nixon and with a created from works by Malcolm Arnold, the ballet will visit Nottingham, Newcastle, Sheffield and Canterbury from October 4 – November 3. John Pryce-Jones, conductor of the premiere and its subsequent recording, will lead the orchestra.
Poignantly premiered by Northern Ballet on the day of the composer’s death in 2006, The Three Musketeers has been performed by several companies across Canada and Europe, including several performances by the Estonian National Ballet. The shows over the coming months follow a series of performances of the score by the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra earlier in the year.

Based on Alexandre Dumas’ classic novel, The Three Musketeers is compiled from the composer’s catalogue by Anthony Meredith and arranged by John Longstaff. It includes selections from symphonies, film music and other concert works composed by Arnold over his 70-year output, providing an exciting summary of the work of this towering figure in Twentieth Century music. Among the pieces arranged for the ballet include music from the scores to Hobson’s Choice, Trapeze and David Copperfield, excerpts from Symphonies 3 and 5, and Phantasy for string quartet.
