An exciting spring season is ahead for House of Cards composer Jeff Beal. The impressively wide variety of projects spanning multiple genres includes the world premiere of his Flute Concerto, a silent film score for full orchestra, and a ballet, among other highlights.

From Academy Honorary Award-winning director Buster Keaton, Orson Welles called The General 'the greatest comedy ever made, the greatest Civil War film ever made, and perhaps the greatest film ever made'. Experience The General with live orchestra, led by Leonard Slatkin, on Thursday 12 April 2018, 7:30pm at Riverside Church in New York City.

Minnesota Orchestra Premieres Flute Concerto
On 3-5 May 2018, soloist Sharon Bezaly and the Minnesota Orchestra will give the world premiere of Beal’s Flute Concerto, conducted by Osmo Vänskä. The concerto was composed in 2016, and Bezaly has performed excerpts with orchestras in Leipzig, Germany and Seoul, South Korea. Bezaly, currently the concerto's exclusive soloist, will give the first complete performance with the Minnesota Orchestra as a part of its American Voices program.

Smuin Ballet Reprises 'Oasis'
Beal's powerful work Oasis, choreographed by Helen Pickett for Smuin Ballet, will return to the stage on 20 April 2018. The piece celebrates water’s abundance and its essential role in life.
The San Francisco Chronicle described the ballet as 'stirring and gorgeously dispatched' and 'complemented by Beal's soaring score'. Pickett offers challenge and inspiration to dancers and audiences alike, igniting the stage with passionate energy.

Song Cycle for St. Louis and Hila Plitmann in the 2018-19 Season
To celebrate 50 years of Leonard Slatkin working with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, the orchestra commissioned a song cycle from Beal to be sung by soprano Hila Plitmann and conducted by Slatkin. It premieres on 3 May 2019.
