The current opera season has been a busy one for G. Schirmer/AMP and Music Sales Classical. In 2016 and 2017 alone we are witness to the international world premieres of eight new operas from composers published by our companies.

The Invention of Morel by Stewart Copeland and Jonathan Moore
Based on the surrealist novella of the same name by Adolfo Bioy Casares

Frau Schindler by Thomas Morse/Ken Cazan
Based on the experiences of Emilie Schindler, wife of Oscar Schindler

Dream of the Red Chamber by Bright Sheng/David Henry Hwang
Based on the beloved and epic classical Chinese tale

Commissioned and premiered by Welsh National Opera
Premiere: May 2016; Directed by David Poutney; Conducted by Carlo Rizzi

Elysium by Rolf Wallin and Mark Ravenhill
Commissioned and premiered by Den Norske Opera
Premiere March 2016; Directed by David Poutney; Conducted by Baldur Bronnimann

Significant new productions are also hitting the boards this season including a new production with the Mexican premiere of Daniel Catán's Salsipuedes; a return of Keith Warner's interpretation of John Harbison's The Great Gatsby at Semper Opera Dresden; and the US premiere production of Philip Glass's The Perfect American at Long Beach Opera and Chicago Opera Theater.
