On October 15 the Calder Quartet presents the world premiere of Daniel Wohl’s third string quartet Radiance at the Donaueschinger Musiktage. Radiance includes, just as Whol’s previous string quartets Formless and Glitch, the accompaniment of electronics. The piece was commissioned by the SWR.

Radiance focuses on shifting the affects of the string quartet within a short time frame of ten minutes. Daniel Wohl remarks that traditionally often music expresses only one or few sentiments, however, ‘Radical changes in feelings, thoughts, and situations is something that one has to accept in life but that we don't often seek in music as we frequently look for a comfortable and unified stream of sounds.’ Radiance thus tries to incorporate affect changes within the coherence and continuity of the piece.
