When summer draws to a close, we feel the first sign of autumn as the air becomes crisper and the leaves turn golden yellow, fiery red. Our summer nostalgia soon turns to excitement as we explore all the possibilities autumn has to offer, like hot apple cider and freshly baked pumpkin pie straight from the farmer's market.

Our journey begins with Lennox Berkeley's Autumn's Legacy, followed by two works by Thea Musgrave. Virgil Thomson's majestic concerto Autumn shines brilliantly and no works capture autumn better than New England composer Charles Ives' songs Yellow Leaves and Maple Leaves. Pieces by Max Richter and Morton Gould are included as well.

That time of year thou mayst in me behold,
When yellow leaves, or none, or few do hang
Upon those boughs which shake against the cold,
Bare ruined choirs where late the sweet birds sang.

—From Sonnet 73, by William Shakespeare
