Einaudi’s Elements highest charting classical album since 1992

This week the new album Elements by Italian composer and pianist Ludovico Einaudi has entered the UK album charts at number 12. This commercial success makes Elements the highest charting classical album since Symphony of Sorrowful Songs by Henryk Gorecki, which peaked at number 6 in 1992. Elements also broke the top 10 of the iTunes classical albums charts, peaking at number 6.

In a recent interview Einaudi said that he was thrilled “to have an album in the top 15 of the pop charts”, and that he was “delighted that listeners have embraced the sound of Elements” and hoped that listeners will “continue to enjoy my music.”

Einaudi, the grandson of the former Italian Premier Luigi Einaudi, studied under the experimental French composer Luciano Berio and has composed music for several popular films and television shows. His work on the soundtrack for Shane Meadows’ “This is England ‘86” earned him a BAFTA nomination in 2010.

The recent UK chart success of Elements has followed many other successes this month. Earlier in October, Einaudi made history by topping both the singles and albums lists in the iTunes classical charts. His music is now more famous than ever in England and overseas thanks to coverage on “The X Factor” and the hugely popular “This Is England ‘90”.
