'Florencia en el Amazonas' Journeys Across America

Washington National Opera opens its season with the landmark production directed by WNO General Director Francesca Zambello in five performances September 22-28 and features star soprano Christine Goerke in her premiere performances as a famous prima donna revisiting her homeland in search of her one true love.
Florencia next journeys home to Los Angeles Opera — which co-commissioned the work in 1995 with Houston Grand Opera — for six performances from November 22 to December 20 in its first revival of the Zambello production. Chilean soprano Verónica Villarroel returns to LA Opera for her first turn in the title role.
From January 23 to 27, 2015, Nashville Opera presents an all-new production directed by General Director John Hoomes with Elizabeth Caballero leading the cast.
With its libretto in Spanish by Marcela Fuentes-Berain (inspired by the works of Gabriel García Márquez), Florencia en el Amazonas is now firmly established and beloved in the operatic repertoire as a most significant opera of the late 20th century and a preeminent musical work in the Spanish language.
