Einaudi: Le Piano Africain

Einaudi: Le Piano Africain
From May 16-18 Piano City Milano takes place across the stylish Italian city of Milan. Ludovico Einaudi is a featured composer and on the opening night there will be a premiere of a new concert length work called Le Piano Africain, which will be played at the Parco Sempione. The work is scored for six pianos, two marimbas and four balafon. The balafon is an instrument originating from Mali, similar to a Marimba, which is nicknamed ‘Plan Africain’.

The new piece is conceived as a kind of concert installation, with music developing around the elements of the music of the balafon. The work combines the music of different cultures, oral and written traditions, improvisation and classical music.
