The Munich Philharmonic and conductor Markus Stenz will honour Hans Werner Henze, the founder of the Munich Biennale, who died in October 2012 at the age of 86 years, with a memorial concert on May 10. The programme encompasses some of Henze’s finest late works: Sebastian im Traum was the last of his works and is based on verses by Georg Trakl; he was able to experience the work in concert only a fortnight before his death. Nebelheim und Sonnenland is a concert suite from his youth opera Gisela! that was recently arranged by Jobst Liebrecht. Nebelheim und Sonnenland features some of the most appealing scenes of the opera and is a welcome broadening of the youth and amateur orchestra repertoire.
