Tavener and O’Regan Focus at Vale of Glamorgan Festival
The programme for the 2014 Vale of Glamorgan Festival has been announced and next year sees a major focus on two Music Sales composers – John Tavener and Tarik O’Regan.

2014 would have been Tavener’s 70th Birthday year and the festival has programmed a wide variety of works reflecting the composer’s output, from solo to large-scale iconic orchestral pieces. Performances include the Celtic Requiem with the BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales conducted by David Atherton (who conducted the world premiere in 1969), The Protecting Veil with Guy Johnston, and The Last Sleep of the Virgin with Quatour Tana.

The breadth of Tarik O’Regan’s catalogue is also explored as pieces have been chosen for the specific performers visiting the festival. This includes a commission from the festival for I Flautisti, an arrangement of O’Regan’s Virelai: Douce dame jolie. Other highlights include the UK premiere of Acallam na Senórach with the National Chamber Choir of Ireland (for whom it was written), and a concert which includes both Latent Manifest and Suite from Heart of Darkness performed by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.

Performances by Ensemble MidtVest will also include works by Hans AbrahamsenTen Preludes and Walden.
