The Philadelphia Orchestra launches their season with two interesting premieres by Music Sales composers. From September 26-28, they pair the world premiere of the newly-orchestrated Bright Mass with Canons by Nico Muhly, with Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. Yannick Nezet-Seguin leads the Orchestra and the Westminster Symphonic Choir in the premiere.

The Philadelphia Orchestra will present the US premiere of Nu Shu: The Secret Songs of Women , Symphony for 12 Micro Films, Harp, and Orchestra by Tan Dun on October 31 and November 1. The title refers to Nushu (literally “women’s writing”) script which was exclusively used by women and girls in the Hunan region of Southern China.
