Showcase of Music Sales composers at City of London Festival 2013

Significant works from the Music Sales catalogue by Mealor, Pook and Barber will be performed in this returning festival. Its interesting vision for this year will include reflecting on historical landmark anniversaries and the idea of conflict and resolution, city walls and trees; the celebration of artistic responses to the environment.
Featuring in the Trees, Walls and Cities project, Jocelyn Pook and Søren Nils Eichberg have been commissioned to write a piece for mezzo-soprano Lore Lixenberg and the Brodsky Quartet, with the performance taking place at Drapers Hall on June 24.
Following the festival’s themes, the 300th anniversary of the Treaty of Utrecht will be commemorated with a performance of Handel’s Utrecht Te Deum and Jubilate. The grand venue of St Paul’s Cathedral will play host to this performance given by The Toonkunstkoor Utrecht and English Chamber Choir, conducted by Jos Vermont on July 4.
Also held at the spectacular cathedral will be a unique celebration of Barber on July 8. Tenebrae and London Symphony Orchestra will be delivering an exclusive performance of a special chorus and orchestral version of the renowned Adagio for Strings and the chorus version of the same work entitled Agnus Dei.
As the Music Sales catalogues continue to grow, as do the premieres. Paul Mealor’s The Farthest Shore, commissioned by the John Armitage Memorial Trust, will receive its London premiere on July 2 at St Bride’s Church featuring the BBC Singers and Nicholas Cleobury as conductor.
