Venables: broadcasts and commissions

Ian Venables' latest work Remember This Op.40, a 30 minute setting of Sir Andrew Motion’s long memorial poem, is to receive two radio broadcasts following its premiere at The Cheltenham Festival on 29th June 2011. Performed by Caroline MacPhie, Allan Clayton, The Elias Quartet and Tom Poster, the first is on BBC Radio 3 on Wednesday August 24th at 1.00pm, with the second on Germany’s BR-Klassik radio station on Saturday September 10th at 9.00pm.

Ian Venables has recently accepted a new commission from the prestigious Malvern Concert Club, founded by Sir Edward Elgar in 1903. He will write a Song Cycle for Baritone, String Quartet and Piano to be performed by the internationally-acclaimed bartitone Roderick Williams (for whom Venables wrote the recently published ‘The Pine Boughs Past Music’), the Carducci String Quartet and pianist Tom Poster. This will be Venables’ 7th song cycle and will be premiered in May 2013.
