Max has been commissioned by consulting engineers Arup to write a work to mark the completion of the Millennium Bridge in London. The bridge spans the river Thames from just below St. Paul's Cathedral on its north bank to the Tate Modern on its south Bank. The footbridge, which has been designed by the unique team of engineer, Arup, architect Norman Foster, and Sculptor, Antony Caro has been built to celebrate the Millennium.
Max's piece is called Crossing Kings Reach and is approximately 30 minutes in duration and will receive its world première at a private concert at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London on Wednesday 6th March, 2002. The work will be performed by the London Sinfonietta, conducted by Max. The concert is being given by Arup and is by invitation only and is a thank you from Arup to those who have helped and supported them during the period of the design of the bridge.
Crossing Kings Reach will receive its first public performance on 16 May, 2002, at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, given again by the London Sinfonietta, conducted by Oliver Knussen and will be broadcast on Radio 3.
