On the Wings of Love, a new recording of vocal music by Ian Venables featuring tenor Andrew Kennedy, clarinettist Richard Hosford and pianist Iain Burnside, is now available on NAXOS.
Venables, whose music draws on the English art-song tradition, has written over fifty works in the genre. These include six major song cycles, two of which – On the Wings of Love and Venetian Songs (Love’s Voice) – are included on the new recording. The composer’s sensitive ear for poetry is once again on display in settings texts by a diverse array of writers that includes Constantine Cavafy, Lorca, WB Yeats, Tennyson and John Addington Symonds.
