On April 9 at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, Esa-Pekka Salonen will conduct the world premiere of his violin concerto with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. Salonen has written the concerto for Leila Josefowicz, a committed champion of new music including concerti by Steve Mackey, Colin Matthews, Thomas Adès and Oliver Knussen. A co-commission between the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra and New York City Ballet, the piece comes to Europe for the 2009 Baltic Seas Festival, with performances in Autumn 2009 in Stockholm and Brussels.
