The eightieth birthday celebrations for composer Thea Musgrave reach their climax in December with a series of concerts and world premieres around Scotland and north-east England.

On December 8 and 9 two concerts at the Sage Gateshead focus exclusively on Musgrave’s music. Featuring the Northern Sinfonia conducted by Nicholas Kraemer, highlights include performances of The Seasons, Helios with Nicholas Daniel and the premiere of Take Two Oboes.

Later that month the Scottish Chamber Orchestra performs Points of View in Glasgow and Edinburgh on December 12 and 13. The piece was co-commissioned by the SCO and Manchester Camerata and was given its first performance in Manchester earlier this year.

Musgrave’s year reaches its climax with the premiere of Green by the Scottish Ensemble. The piece has been commissioned for the ensemble’s winter tour and is given a further five performances in the days following its first performance.
