John McCabe: Landscapes of the Mind

John McCabe: Landscapes of the Mind
A new book from Ashgate Publishing provides a welcome in-depth study of the music of John McCabe. Compiled and edited by George Odam, “Landscapes of the Mind: The Music of John McCabe” addresses various aspects of the output of the prolific composer.

Articles in the book include Paul Conway on the symphonies and concertos; Verity Butler and Paul Hindmarsh on the music for brass and wind; Guy Rickards on the music for theatre, film and television; Tamami Honma on the piano music; and John Vorrasi on the vocal music. These surround two significant chapters by George Odam himself: an article on McCabe’s early years, and a lengthy and insightful interview with the composer. An extra level of interest is provided by the numerous photos, musical extracts, and reproductions of sketches and manuscripts.

“Landscapes of the Mind: The Music of John McCabe” is available directly from the Ashgate website
