For the second time this year, London will play host to the European premiere of a major piece by American composer Aaron Jay Kernis, who recently rejoined the Music Sales group of companies. Brilliant Sky, Infinite Sky , scored for the unusual line-up of voice, percussion, piano and violin, will be performed in an all-American programme on June 22 at the Wigmore Hall by celebrated baritone Thomas Meglioranza, hailed by Newsday as "one of today's finest young singers", making his Wigmore Hall debut alongside a talented line-up of young musicians. The concert also includes works by Barber, Gershwin and Rorem.
Setting a variety of texts by George du Maurier and others, “Brilliant Sky, Infinite Sky” is one of a number of Kernis works inspired by staring to the heavens. Other examples include dream of the morning sky for soprano and orchestra, and the orchestral tone-poem “Newly Drawn Sky”, given its UK premiere by the BBC Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican Centre in April.
