Judith Weir has been awarded the Queen’s Medal for Music. Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, Master of the Queen’s Music, spoke at the December 2007 ceremony, remarking that Weir “is a composer of the most striking originality and freshness who communicates on the broadest level with the public, not only with dedicated and intense skill, but with an absolute and infectious integrity.” The annual Queen’s Medal for Music was first awarded in 2005, to reward individuals who have had a major influence on the musical life of the UK.
