John McCabe London Philharmonic Orchestra recording released
A recording of two landmark orchestral works by John McCabe is now available, featuring the London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Bernard Haitink and Georg Solti.

The CD of McCabe’s Concerto for Orchestra and The Chagall Windows is included in a box-set released on the LPO’s own label in celebration of the orchestra’s seventy-fifth anniversary.

Written in 1974, The Chagall Windows was inspired by Marc Chagall’s stained glass windows at the Hadasseh-Hebrew University in Jerusalem and was the subject of a Granada TV documentary at the time of its composition. McCabe’s Concerto for Orchestra was commissioned by the LPO for its fiftieth anniversary season and takes the form of a passacaglia which shows off the orchestra’s lyrical ability as well as its virtuosity.
