Eric Whitacre Joins Chester Music
American composer Eric Whitacre has signed a publishing agreement with Chester Music, part of The Music Sales Group. Whitacre is internationally known for his exquisite choral music in particular. The recent highly acclaimed album Cloudburst, recorded by Polyphony and Stephen Layton on the Hyperion label, has just passed its fiftieth week in the Billboard Classical Album Chart. Whitacre’s latest musical Paradise Lost: Shadows and Wings premiered this summer in Los Angeles and has been hailed as ‘spectacular’. He has also written popular repertoire for other forces and is a revered conductor, travelling worldwide for concerts and workshops. Forthcoming new works include a piece for The King’s Singers and a new work for the London Symphony Chorus and Orchestra for premiere in 2008.
On signing his new contract Eric remarked ‘I am most honoured to be a new member of the Music Sales family. I am working now on several new pieces and can't wait for them to become part of the long and respected publishing tradition that Music Sales has so rightfully earned.’
James Rushton, Managing Director of Chester Music, commented ‘It is a privilege to be able to welcome Eric Whitacre to the Music Sales Group. Eric is a composer of music of remarkable and memorable freshness and subtlety. For many years now his work has found a huge following in the USA and we are ideally placed as a company to create the same interest and demand in Europe and beyond across a range of media.’
