John Joubert on CD
In celebration of the eightieth birthday of John Joubert, a recording of his youthful Symphony No 1 has been released by Lyrita. The recording, which features the London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Vernon Handley, is available as a CD single for the first time. Composed when Joubert was only twenty-eight, the symphony is an assured and vibrant work, which remains as rewarding to listen to as it was at its premiere over fifty years ago.

In recent months Lyrita has re-released important recordings by a number of Chester Music and Novello composers, including Thea Musgrave, Lennox Berkeley, Malcolm Arnold, E J Moeran, Arnold Cooke and Elizabeth Maconchy.
