Love Counts sees the renewal of the partnership between librettist Michael Hastings and Michael Nyman that first Man and Boy: Dada. As Michael Hastings says: “Love Counts is an operatic love story between opposites, about two people from such different worlds that they might never have met: Avril, a lecturer in mathematics, and Patsy, a middle-weight fighter at the end of his career who cannot read or recognise numbers.”
