Glass: Violin Concerto No. 2
London Philharmonic Orchestra
Orange Mountain Music
[It] has taken 20 years to appear but it has been worth the wait. Designed as a companion piece to Vivaldi's Four Seasons...Glass's cyclical structure is more in keeping with the spirit of the seasons.
Movement I ratchets up the tension by employing increasingly virtuoso loops and spins in the solo part....such drama is eventually resolved in...a surprisingly emphatic ending. [M]ost memorable is the haunting bittersweet angularity of Movement II.
